Before Jacob took his family back to Bethel (the "house of God") he ordered them all to "get rid of the foreign gods that are among you" (35:2). Huh?!? Why were they collecting foreign gods? As if the one, true God hadn't made it clear that He was the one and only!!!
But that got me thinking. Maybe this is an appropriate way to enter into God's presence. Maybe we should see if we've picked up any "foreign gods" - allegiances to things that pull us away from worshipping the one, true God.
Let's get rid of our foreign gods and make our way to the house of God!
